Annie Bidwell begins with some short punchy climbs up to the rim of the canyon. After intersecting Guardian Trail there is a steep downhill, littered with loose rocks and several drainages. This section is often referred to as "tennis ball hill." The bottom of the steep section leads to a nice meadow as well as several swimming opportunities in the Bear Hole area of Big Chico Creek.

After leaving the meadow and a short section of tree canopy, the trail becomes more open and exposed lava cap. Just before the intersection of Bloody Pin Trail, there are some opportunities to view down into the Salmon Hole area of Big Chico Creek, with its steep basalt cliffs. After some more climbing, the trail begins to drop towards 10 Mile House Trail under thick tree canopy.
