This trail starts at a parking area off Highway 50. This is a rather hidden trail with lots of trees, though there are breaks in the tree cover which provide awesome views of the American River Canyon north to Horsetail Falls, and east toward Echo Summit and west toward Placerville. The view from the rocky top of Lover's Leap is well worth the climb and the time. The trail continues south and west of Lover's Leap, ending at a forest road.
View of Horsetail Falls to the north.
The upper fork takes hikers to the top of Lover's Leap. The lower fork, the historic Pony Express Trail, takes hikers below to Lover's Leap campground. To the photog's back, the trail goes to Camp Sacramento.
