The wide Sky Trail begins with a short but moderately taxing climb up a ridge covered in Douglas fir and oak. The forest opens up for the first of many views, this time of Drakes Bay and Limantour Beach. To the west is a bunch of Bishop pine, burned in an intense fire here in 1995. This charring is not all bad, Bishop pine require fire to open their pine cones and spread their seeds.

You soon arrive at Sky Camp where permitted backpackers can overnight. Otherwise there are restrooms and water here. Continue on the Sky trail along gently rolling terrain through pleasant forest. The trail begins to descend in earnest with views of the entire coast opening up. Look for the Farallon Islands far out to sea on clear days.

The final stretch of the Sky Trail zig zags more steeply down the hillside bluffs, and almost to the beach. The Sky trail ends at the junction with the Coast Trail - North.
