Drakes Beach Trail

Overview

The south-facing Drakes Beach, named for the English explorer who allegedly landed here in 1579, offers a great experience of calm wind and water with great views of the coastline along Point Reyes National Seashore.

The Drakes Beach Trail departs from the parking lot at Drakes Beach. Heading west, follow the 1/4 mile path for the Peter Behr Overlook. From here, you can get some of the best views of Drakes Bay.

Moving further west, past the overlook point, you can traverse the high bluffs along the shoreline. Turn around at any point to return to the parking area, making for an enjoyable and leisurely out-and-back hike.

Thanks to John McKinney, The Trailmaster, for sharing this trail description.
