This trail heads north from the Middle Boulder Trail #5577 about 0.6 miles north of the #5577's junction with the Pacific Crest Trail. This junction is poorly signed and is easy to miss in favor of the more obvious Middle Boulder Trail. Pay attention and you'll see a tread worn in the sage brush.

After that, the route is never difficult to follow. After passing through several sage brush meadows, the trail enters dense forest as it rounds the shoulder of the ridge between the West and East Boulder Creeks and descends a wide sage brush-covered slope to its end at a junction with the East Boulder Lake Trail #5575 on the shore of East Boulder Lake.

The Boulder Tie Trail #5582 isn't a particularly interesting trail in its own right but is a highly useful connection between the two creek drainages for loop hikes or backpacks.
