This short hike takes you to prominences and Cascade views at the very northern end of the Umpqua National Forest. In early summer, this is also a good wildflower hike. From the Mount June Trailhead, hike 0.6 miles to the Mount June-Sawtooth Trail Junction. Turn right at the trail junction, and climb a steep 0.4 miles to the summit of Mount June. On a clear day, the summit has good views of the Cascades from Mount Thielsen to Mount Hood, and especially to Diamond Peak and the Three Sisters. Return to the Mount June-Sawtooth Trail Junction and turn right (east) towards Sawtooth Rock. You are now on the Sawtooth Trail #1401. From here, it is about one mile to the western edge of Sawtooth Meadow and another 0.4 miles to Sawtooth Rock on the eastern edge. There is a user trail up to the base of Sawtooth Rock a short way into the trees on the east side of the meadow. Late May to early July is usually the best period for wildflowers in this area.
