Clear Lake is no longer a natural body of water surrounded by lush meadows since the Wasco Dam raised its surface for irrigation purposes in 1959. The lake is fed by Clear Creek, a tributary of the White River. Because of seasonal draw-downs, the lake, also known as the Wasco Reservoir, has a fluctuating shoreline and is only 32 feet deep when full. The waters are very clear and, from a boat, the bottom can be seen from any point on the surface. Stands of tall old-growth can be found near the lake shore, including along the Blue Box Trail, the only trail that arrives here.
