The Cooks Meadow Trail, redesigned for mountain bikers and maintained by the 44 Trails Association, comprises two fairly equal sections, the entire route running from FR 44 to FR 3550 near the High Prairie Trailhead . On the lower segment, the trail forms the western boundary of The Dalles Watershed, passing through formerly logged woods, glades, and meadows. Once it crosses FR 4410, the newer section of trail runs up along the western rim of the Lookout Mountain-Surveyors Ridge, passing through colorful wildflower meadows with views and stretches of montane forest. From the High Prairie Trailhead , hikers can then enter the Badger Creek Wilderness and complete the short High Prairie Loop to the summit of Lookout Mountain .
