This spectacular hike begins at Cloud Cap Trailhead , and quickly climbs to a soaring viewpoint above the Eliot Glacier, Mount Hood’s largest river of ice. The route also passes one of the surviving Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) stone shelters that once dotted the Timberline Trail. Historic Cloud Cap Inn is located just beyond the trailhead on Cloud Cap Road. Though generally closed to the public, the grounds of the Inn are worth a stop before or after your hike. The Cloud Cap Trailhead is often crowded on summer weekends, so try this one on a weekday, if possible. The 9-mile unimproved road to the trailhead is very rough and not recommended for low-clearance vehicles.
