Western States is a popular trail and a popular starting point for local rides.

The western end of the trail is at the midway bridge, just south of Squaw Valley.

From Hwy 89, the trail is a roughly 1.5 mile flowing singletrack climb. Think big flowing corners and big smiles. After 1.5 miles, the trail becomes a mix of old jeep road and singletrack. This is a great, tough, climb to OTB or to the 06 Road. As a climb, this is like a long staircase with steep sections follow by a short break or downhill. It is one of our favorite ways to climb to the Mt. Watson section of the TRT. For those wanting a shorter loop, this trail also connects to The Wall (16N53) and a popular local alternate.

The trail- particularly the last 1.5 mile flowing downhill- is also a great descent. Watch for - and yield to - climbing riders and hikers.

Local trivia - This section of Western States is co-aligned with the Tevis Trail - famous for the annual Tevis Cup 100-mile endurance horse race.
