No matter which direction you travel along this trail, it will take your breath away. Climbing from the south trailhead will make your lungs burn and heading back down you'll have to force yourself to breathe. Starting from the north trailhead means miles of remote ridge line riding and with plenty of steep side slope traverses to keep you on your toes.

There are some spectacular views from the many open fields along the ridge, but since the trail gets so little use, you'll be bushwacking especially in late summer. This is not a trail for the faint of heart and it's a long long way from civilization, so make sure you're prepared for anything.

Works great as a shuttle or as a loop when combined with Chucksney Mountain Trail #3306 or NF-19 and NF 1917. You can even extend the downhill (or uphill) on the south end by connecting your ride with Box Canyon Trail #3660.
Plenty of great views from along the ridge.

A successful traverse.
Remote, rugged and technical with a bit of exposure thrown in for good measure.
At the top of Box Canyon Trail!
Almost to the top!
There's some chunky goodness on the downhill.
Nice tight switchbacks and evidence of recent trail work!
There are still some wet places in Western OR, even in a dry year.
Open ridge line meadow near the Grasshopper Mountain summit.
We had to take a break on the amazing downhill to take in all the glorious fall colors.
