This trail starts about a half mile southwest from the Day Use parking at the Gales Creek Campground, along the Gales Creek Trail. Take a left at the junction to start the climb on the Storey Burn Trail.

For much of the ride, it consists of a combination of short and long climbs, sharp turns and is almost entirely a bench-cut trail. It is your typical ride in Tillamook State Forest; winding, gnarly, and unforgiving.

After you reach the top, the trail levels out some and the forest opens up. At the Storey Burn Trailhead, on Storey Burn Road, you'll also find the trailhead to the mountain-bike-only Sickter Lars Trail.

Eventually you'll cross Highway 6, and then a little ways past that, you'll find yourself at the Gravelle Brothers Trail. Heading left will take you to the Rogers Camp Trailhead, south will take you to University Falls and its corresponding trailhead.

This trail is multi-use and therefore feels very much like a hiking trail. There isn't a lot of flow or momentum in the ride; it's mostly a grind.
Nice little stream crossing on the trail.
Coasting down the Gale Creek Trail, about to merge with Storey Burn Trail
Climbing up to the connecting trail back to the parking lot, instead of going up Storey Burn Trail.
Almost to the Storey Burn Trailhead!
From the underpass of HWY 6 and on to where this photo was taken, this is a gradual and at times steep climbing, however, the scenery is lush, green, and the tall trees provide a sweet canopy!
