North Shore Trail

Overview

The North Shore Trail follows the north shore of Lookout Point Reservoir.

From Eugene, take Highway 58 east to Lowell by crossing Dexter Reservoir into Lowell. Once in Lowell, turn right onto W. Boundary Road and follow to the top of the Lookout Point reservoir dam. From the dam, ride east on the road to the trailhead at 0.8 miles.

About 4 miles in, the trail comes back out to the road for 1/2 mile. Look for another marker to drop you back towards the lake. The trail soon crosses the Signal Point Boat Ramp, its a good spot to regroup and snack. Soon you'll arrive at Ivan Oaks Campground. This is a good place to stop, fill with water at the campground pump and ride the road back to the car. The trail does continue from here for the more adventurous for a few more miles; eventually you can make it to the North Shore Tie.

This ride has no significant climbs, but it is technical at times. Muddy crossings and climbs and roots and rocks are common in the first half; the second half gets smoother and quicker. A recommended ride for a beginner or youngster would be the last section from Ivan Oaks to the boat ramp.

Note that you can't park at Ivan Oakes campground. Best bet is to park right above on road and drop in at campground. Short ride to Signal Point. About mile post 3.5 is a pullout that would be a nice 4 mile ride.
Avoid trail at dam as it is very overgrown.
