Hitt Road

Overview

This road and subsequent trail are often combined with Mystical (unsanctioned), No Candies, Horn Gap, or the Loop Road #2060. The grade is user-friendly for climbing, and there is much less downhill traffic than the trails over by BTI and Caterpillar. This is a multi-use trail, so be on the lookout for hikers and runners.<br><br>From the trailhead parking at the end of Hitt Road, go around the gate and up a steep, paved lane. Soon this becomes a wide, rocky track resembling an old 4WD trail. This character too is short-lived, as Hitt trail soon settles down to smooth singletrack heading gently up across the slope through woods of oak, madrone, pine, and manzanita. <br><br>At 1.65 miles from the trailhead, there is an obvious fork. The left fork is FR 2060-300, and it continues for another half mile as singletrack before becoming the Hitt Road doubletrack (gated, motorized use restricted). After ascending gradually on this for 1.2 miles, the Ashland Loop Road #2060 (gated as well) is reached. Go right, uphill, on this, but look for a singletrack cutting off sharp right after only a hundred yards or so for Hitt Spur. Follow this continuation of Hitt up for a half-mile to meet Mystical, an unsanctioned trail that crosses private property.
