FR 2060-300

Overview

2060-300 starts at the high end, at a very distinctive hairpin turn on Forest Rd 2060 (aka the Ashland Loop Road). The road (driven occasionally by Forest Service, hunters, and trail maintenance vehicles) is wide, bumpy and the decomposed granite is sometimes sandy in some turns. Treefall is common, so pay close attention. 2060-300 ends when it hits private land and becomes Hitt Road. Views of Mount McLoughlin, Grizzly Peak, and the Rogue Valley can be quite stunning in the early spring.

Few people ride up 2060-300 because getting there means having to climb Hitt Road, still you may see folks riding up (as well as hikers and runners), so be aware when descending (or climbing).

Although Hitt Road has been hiked and biked for decades, be aware that at some point it could close due to private ownership of various sections; you may have to turn around at the Forest Service boundary and ride back up.
