Side Step Trail

Overview

This aptly named trail begins about a quarter mile west of the University Falls Trailhead, on University Falls Road. It starts climbing immediately, and it won't take long to come to a fork. Taking the left and continuing uphill follows the Side Step Trail. The trail to the right appears to be decommissioned and very quickly brings you back to the road.

Up, up, and up, this trail is mostly a climb. After a little over half-a-mile the downhill begins and it will spit you back out at a junction with University Falls Road and Rutherford Road.

A very short distance down the right fork in the road (Rutherford Road), you can catch the westernmost sections of the Wilson River Wagon Road Trail. Turning left at that trail junction is a quick jaunt down to the horse camp named Stagecoach Camp. Heading right takes the Wilson River Wagon Road Trail back towards the University Falls Trailhead.

Like the western parts of the Wilson River Wagon Road Trail, which can be combined with this trail to create a smaller loop attached to the larger Browns Camp Loop, this trail doesn't get as much traffic, so expect it to be more narrow, rough, and overgrown in the warm months.
