This trail can be ridden in either direction. Although it is a reasonably stout climb from the east, it is mostly a good grade for climbing once you're on the switchbacks, and is a nice alternative to going up the Ashland Loop Road. Many will choose to ride it west to east from Caterpillar, but even this descent will involve one not-insignificant climb.

Even though there is the adjacent hiker-only Mike Uthoff trail, White Rabbit is still very popular with hikers and trail runners, so watch your speed and be prepared to yield.

From the Oredson-Todd Woods trailhead off Lupine Drive, the trail leads into the drainage, crosses a small creek, goes up a low-angle staircase, and winds around to meet the spur trail leading out to Park Street. Here the climbing begins in earnest up a wide track for less than 1/2 mile until the tread narrows again and the lower-angle switchbacks begin.

The first high point is reached 1.5 miles from the trailhead after gaining 850 feet. There is a bench here and a nice view out over Ashland. A short descent of a quarter-mile is followed by the final climb up to the 3-way junction with Caterpillar and Queen of Hearts.

The final portion of the trail, from this junction down to the White Rabbit Trailhead on the 2060 road (0.3 mile), is known as Rabbit Hole; a hiker-only option parallels it.
