Starting from the Leif Erikson parking lot on Germantown Road, pedal up the road past the gate for Firelane 9 (not bike-legal) and head for the gate for Firelane 10. It is a couple hundred feet further up the hill.

Right from the get-go, the fire road drops into a steep downhill for almost half a mile. It's the kind of steepness that'll elicit a groan, knowing the return climb will be a doozy.

At about the half-mile mark, a stream flows through a culvert under the road. This marks the beginning of the climbing portion. It's just about as long and as steep as what you just came down.

A little ways up, before an especially steep segment, a bypass trail will veer off to the left. It's advised to take this spur, as it is much less steep and only a little longer than the "normal" route.

Eventually, it levels out, and before long, Firelane 10 terminates in the Newton Road parking lot.
Firelane 10 can get plenty wet and muddy hill in late fall.
