While this short loop takes you on a meandering route through the old town blocks of Milwaukie, it also connects to three restored creeks (Johnson Creek, Kellogg Creek, and Spring Creek) in the area. You’ll get views across the Willamette River to Riverdale and also explore small parks and early 20th century buildings in Milwaukie’s downtown. This hike can easily be combined with the Elk Rock Island Hike and the northern section of the Trolley Trail Hike. From the parking area, walk south across the bridge that crosses Kellogg Creek. There’s a small dam and fish ladder on the creek below the Highway 99 bridge. When you reach the Kellogg Water Resource Recovery Facility, a wastewater treatment plant, pick up the paved trail that follows above the Willamette River shoreline. A line of locust trees offers shade in the summer. You’ll arrive at 19th Avenue, which you can follow south for one block to Bluebird Street. (To connect with the Elk Rock Island Hike, continue south on 19th for four blocks to the Spring Park Trailhead.) Make a left on Bluebird, and go three blocks to S.E. 22nd Avenue. Turn left here, and walk down to the paved Trolley Trail where it passes under the MAX line viaduct. Go left on the Trolley Trail, and follow it north along McLoughlin Boulevard. Above the Milwaukie Riverfront Park Trailhead, take the pedestrian crossing across McLoughlin Boulevard to Washington Street. Go one block on Washington, and then make a right on Main Street. Go left up through the plaza in front of the post office, and note the historic mural to your left. Cross the MAX tracks to view the more recent mural by Chris Haberman on 21st Avenue. Walk north on 21st past Rohst Coffee, and turn right up a back street. Make a left up through a parking area at Flowers for You, and reach 23rd Avenue. Go left on 23rd to Washington, and make another left. The 1925 house on your left belonged to R. Derwey, a Milwaukie jeweler. Recross the MAX tracks, and go a block and a half to Main Street, where you can make a right. The 1910
