Stanford Rock Summit

Overview

This TAMBA project restores historical trail access to Stanford Rock summit. It's a new, bike-optimized singletrack to a mountain top peak with some of the best views in Tahoe. The trail tops out at 8,500' on top of a natural rock "castle parapet" with nearly 300-degree panoramic views. Views on a clear day are so big they are difficult to describe. More than 30 peaks are visible! Plus a couple surprises on the summit...

Did you know that Stanford Rock Trail didn't go to Stanford Rock? Hikers and riders have been going cross country and bushwhacking for decades. TAMBA took the lead in building a dedicated mountain top summit trail to replace the social trails.

It took two years of volunteer building, over 2,400 volunteer hours, and 1,680 hours of grant funded trail crews to reach the summit.

More to come: TAMBA is re-routing most of Stanford Rock from legacy logging road to purpose-built recreational trail. Please volunteer or donate to TAMBA's trail building fund. Backcountry trails are labor-intensive and expensive. Great trails don't build themselves. Get involved!

Enjoy!
