Double Down

Overview

Double Down can be accessed as a continuation of Double Diamond or by climbing the Fragrance Lake Road. Either way, this 2015 constructed trail delivers the goods in typical Bellingham fashion with a fast, rowdy ride in beautiful forest with plenty of features.

Off of Double Diamond, take the hasty left-hand turn near the bottom of the trail (if you miss it, it's easy to retrace your steps). Follow this connection as it crosses the South Lost Lake Trail and intersects with the Fragrance Lake Road for about 200 feet. The proper start of Double Down begins on the outside of a subtle turn in the road that welcomes riders into an impressive old growth forest.

Double Down makes excellent use of the terrain as it winds in between massive trees, along a steep cliffside, and over three optional drops look for alternate routes, generally to the left. There's nothing particularly unmanageable about this trail, but it does require confident handling and precise navigating on the roots, steeps, and cliffside traverses particularly compared to Double Diamond.

Expect your smile factor to be high as you race to the bottom and the Lost Lake Parking Lot.
